HOPE (3 mins) Short Film
I wrote this short film three years ago, as I feel in love in this beautiful park during my freshman year. The whole thing started with paper boats floating down the creek. It’s such a graceful, beautiful image. I wondered what could be written on each one, and why someone would send them away. The floating boats became letters and prayers, love letters and hopeful prayers from a young wife to her husband. This wartime love story was the result, though I worried a period piece would be too difficult to accomplish.
The music is a montage of tracks from the score to The Notebook, an amazing soundtrack. It might be too strong, too prevalent for this little piece. The love letter is an original, but is inspired by and includes many phrases from actual WWII love letters I found online.
Many thanks to Julia and Chris, the lovely couple who made the whole project so easy. It worked, too! I was accepted into the BYU film program one month later.
